Dispute case files, 1927-1976.

This series consists of case files created by the Dept. of Labor documenting the dept.'s actions in solving labor problems at various companies and businesses throughout Ala. Generally each case file includes a dispute notice from the U.S. Mediation and Conciliation Service notifying the Dept. of a labor controversy, related correspondence, and preliminary and final reports submitted by the Ala. Dept. of Labor conciliators. The reports note the name and address of the company, the type of business, names of company officials, the union involved and names of union officials, the total number of workers employed and the total number involved in the dispute, and remarks on the mediation process and the resolution of the dispute. The files may also include summary reports of controversies and strikes each year and files for "disputes received out of jurisdiction." The bulk of these records cover the years 1947-1976, though some of the records may have been created by the predecessor agency, Dept. of Industrial Relations, Division of Labor (1939-1943). Similar records were also created by the former Dept. of Labor (1935-1939).
